Victorian Literature Challenge

The Victorian Literature Challenge hosted by Bethany over at words, words, words
What you need to know:

This challenge will run from 01 Jan 2011 - 31 Dec 2011.
Participants can sign up at any time throughout the year.

Read your Victorian literature.
Queen Victoria reigned from 1837-1901. If your book wasn't published during those particular years, but is by an author considered 'Victorian' then go for it. We're here for reading, not historical facts! Also, this can include works by authors from other countries, so long as they are from this period.

Literature comes in many forms.
There are so many Victorian reads out there, including novels, short stories, and poetry. One poem doesn't count as a 'book': pick up an anthology instead!

Choose from one of the four levels:

Sense and Sensibility: 1-4 books. Great Expectations: 5-9 books. Hard Times: 10-14 books. Desperate Remedies: 15+ books.

If you would also like to join this challenge head to here!

Ok second challenge -  now signed up. I chose this particular challenge as my knowledge in the era.. is lacking. I wasn't a big reader as a child and when I get into it, I pretty much skipped over all the classics.

I was origanlly going to do the Sense and Sensibility level to ease me into it. BUT.. the funny thing is, one I started looking at the literature of that era, I found that there were quite a few books that I want to read. So i'll bump my level up to Great Expectations -

1. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

2.  Pride and Prejedice by Jane Austen - not technically a Victorian era novel.. but has been labeled that before. Plus the book is sitting on my shelf and I need a reason to try and read it.

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

4. A Study in Scarlet (the first book in the Sherlock Holmes series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

5. Dracula by Bram Stokerns

6. The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe - It's about time I read some of Poe's work.

I may add a Dickens to my list, but for now thats all I've got.

I'm doing this challenge, too. We have Dracula in common. =) It seems to be quite a popular pick!

  4. Jane Eyre and Dracula are two of my favourites. I have a collection of Edgar Allan Poe stories that I am eager to get started with also.

Great list! Good luck with the challenge :)
